Florida State says giving up wins unfair (AP)

Florida State says it's unfair to take wins off the individual records of football coach Bobby Bowden and other coaches and athletes who had no role in an academic cheating scandal. In an appeal to the NCAA Wednesday, the university argued that a proposal to strip the school, its coaches and athletes of victories in several sports is too harsh and should be reversed.

Former Hawaii quarterback Timmy Chang, one of the most prolific passers in college football history, has been arrested on suspicion of robbery and released without charges pending further investigation. The 27-year-old Chang was arrested at his Mililani home Thursday after a woman alleged her camera was taken away from her while she was filming a brawl last month in the Pearlridge area.

The Senate plans to hold a hearing next week looking into antitrust issues surrounding the Bowl Championship Series. Texas star LB Kindle concussed in crash (AP)
Texas linebacker Sergio Kindle was treated for a concussion after crashing his car into an Austin apartment building last week while he was either sending or receiving a text message, his attorney said Monday. Kindle's attorney, Brian Roark, said Kindle lost control of the car on June 24 while looking at the message.

Tar Heels ink 10-year contract with Nike (AP)
The Tar Heels will wear the swoosh for the next nine years. University of North Carolina officials said Wednesday they have signed a 10-year contract for Nike to supply athletic equipment and apparel to its sports teams. Northern Iowa OL Steichen arrested (AP)
Northern Iowa offensive lineman Austin Steichen and two other men have been arrested in connection with an alleged assault. Arnold Park Police Chief Alan Krueger said Thursday that Steichen, his brother, Andrew Steichen, and Adam Dwyer were arrested on Tuesday after a fight that left an unidentified man unconscious.
